In recent years, microdermabrasion acne scar treatment has proven effective in reducing the appearance of acne scars without harsh chemicals or risky surgery.Besides, there is no downtime involved with the procedure which make it popular with those who want to lessen the effects of acne scarring on their face. There are minimal side effects from the treatment and most people have achieved amazing results, especially for light scarring.
Microdermabrasion is a skin resurfacing and rejuvenation technique in which aluminum oxide crystals or diamond tips are used to peel off the superficial layer of dead and damaged skin cells from the face. Microdermabrasion acne scar treatment works over time to reduce the effects of the acne on the skin. The whole treatment takes about 30 minutes, and are usually performed on a regular maintenance schedule for continued results. Take note that only a certified professional should be allowed to perform the microdermabrasion procedure as it is not without its risks.
However, even though the the procedure is traditionally performed by the dermatologists or skin care specialists, microdermabrasion at home has become an affordable and flexible option in getting rid of acne scarring. Before using microdermabrasion for acne scar treatment, make sure that your acne is not in the active stage where a puncture would cause the acne to spread.
How Does Microdermabrasion Acne Scar Works?
Microdermabrasion works on the uppermost layer of the skin known as stratum corneum. This skin layer is comprised of 15-20 layers deep and this is where most scars and imperfections reside. Microdermabrasion will remove a thin layer of the stratum corneum and allow the new skin underneath to push out to the top layer. Each subsequent treatment will remove the scarred area and raise a new layer until the scar is obliterated.
Depending on the age and severity of acne scars, some light surgery may be required to remove the scar tissue before undergoing microdermabrasion. After the treatment, you may experience some skin redness or discomfort just like sunburn. These side effects are normal and will be gone in a few days time. After that, your skin will take on an improved tone and texture with reduce visibility of your acne scars.
When getting microdermabrasion acne scar treatment, it is important to understand that this is not an instant solution to eliminating acne scarring. Additionally, several treatments may be required before significant results are seen. In fact, microdermabrasion works better for light scarring, which is not deep or extensive. For deep acne scars, microdermabrasion can offer some lightening and smoothing of the skin, but it will not be able to completely eliminate the pitting and roughness in which acne has caused.

Types of Acne Scar Removal Treatments Available Today
It is still unknown how acne forms into the different acne types. What science can tell us right now is that when the sebaceous glands produce excess sebum (oil), it can mix with the dead skin cells and dirt in the skin. This mixture becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. The dead skin cells, dirt and sebum clog up the skin pores. They the manifest themselves as reddish blemish on the skin surface, and this is what we know as acne.
